Open for All Online is a self-paced course that helps you feel more comfortable and confident when interacting with people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The course focuses on practical, real-world skills you can use right away—at work, in your community, or in everyday situations. You’ll move through five key ideas, along with an orientation and conclusion, with interactive activities and opportunities for reflection.

This course is for anyone interested in building practical skills for interacting with people with disabilities—whether for work, volunteering, or personal growth.

What you’ll learn:
  • Introduction (30 minutes) - Get oriented to the course and understand what to expect.
  • Key Idea 1: Models of Disability (60 minutes) - Learn about different ways disability has been understood over time and how those perspectives shape attitudes and experiences today.
  • Key Idea 2: Basic Disability Terminology (45 minutes) - Build confidence using respectful, appropriate language when talking about disability.
  • Key Idea 3: Safe Environments (30 minutes) - Learn practical ways to make spaces, activities, and information more welcoming by reducing physical and communication barriers.
  • Key Idea 4: Creative Communication (30 minutes) - Strengthen your ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully to support positive, professional relationships.
  • Key Idea 5: Advanced Creative Communication (30 minutes) - Explore additional communication strategies that help create positive interactions and welcoming environments.
  • Conclusion (15 minutes) - Reflect on what you’ve learned and how to apply it moving forward.
